We see the word cult and Instantly run for the hills. We don’t like the thought of the word and all the weight it carries, but do you really know what a cult is? Most people have a general idea, but I want to get down to the nitty griddy and find a clear defintion of what a cult is.

One key factor in defining a cult is to see if this group of people have a central figure or headma. Cults are usually started up by people who crave power. Becoming a nations dictator is too hard of a goal to achieve, so most power hunger people just settle for cult leader. These leaders thrive off of the lies and deceptions they mass produce to their pupils.

Cults are kind of hard to define due to another key factor of using backwards and often twisted practices in their lives. A dilema i’ve hit while researching what a cult is “What exactly is a backwards and twisted practice?” because something backwards to me may be perfectly normal to somebody from a different culture. So for this project, we are going to be looking at cults and their practices from the lens of am American, middle class, white, teenage boy. Therefore, a twisted and backwards practice that cults could do is child marriage or forcing youth to have relations with anybody.

Members of cults are often don’t know they are in a cult and surround themselves with people in the same cult so any and all crazy ideas that someone might have, they can bounce them off of each other until the ideas start to become fact. A main part of cults is isolation and solitude. This makes people easier to rule if they don’t know anthing else besides what their leader is telling them.

Cults are a very hard thing to define and there and many things that we can’t quite tell crosses the very blurry line. But as I earlier stated, I will make a clear definition for a cult for this project so here it is “Cults are a group of people that participate in taboo practices and are isolated from society.”
