Imagine a world where depression and anxiety is no longer an issue. Where people are almost always happy. A world where people aren’t dragging their feet infected with sadness or worry. Now think about if it’s all because of one drug, LSD. But what if LSD isn’t the answer to the issue of mental illness? Some believe LSD isn’t the answer. Some believe it’s too unsafe. Is it true? Or are people too worried about something that could change the world?

LSD in the past has been considerably dangerous. It was used for actions such as getting high or trying to find a new way to have a good time and it never seemed to end well for the people who would partake in the drug. The drug was dangerous and had many horrible side effects. Such as almost all people who took the psychedelic drug would become paranoid, their memories would change, emotions would change sporadically, and some would slowly start going insane. Against all logical thinking though, recently scientists have started to study LSD and believe that LSD could possibly change mental illness and shape the world in an amazing way. Isn’t it crazy to think that a dangerous drug might be able to make a huge impact on the mental illness world?

Mental illness is already being treated in a positive way, however, LSD could truly help many people and decrease the rise of mental illness in the world today which would be revolutionary. Risks are indeed relevant but with the significant research done on LSD it should have already become the new leading drug to help people become truly happy again. The key factors of this is that the current drugs aren’t working, mental illness is becoming more and more widespread and must be improved, and LSD has had enough research done on it to prove it helps in a positive way. In my own opinion it can help and if we use LSD it would change the universe of mental illness.

Expanding on that into my first point, the current widespread mental illness is truly alarming. The APA informs us that “In 2009 the percent of mental illness in America was sitting at 18.1% while today it is sitting at 23%.” This implies that mental illness is on the rise and is slowly infecting more people. In a 14 year span a little less than 5% of the population became diagnosed with mental illness. Mental illness is spreading increasingly and we must find a solution.

Our current solution isn’t working. The medicine people currently take for mental illness do not work effectively enough. With mental illness still rising it lets us know that our current medicines aren’t doing enough to slow down mental illness. The National institute for drugs states “23.4% of adults have mental illness in America”. This implies that mental illness is a massive issue in the U.S. and across the world. If our medicine was truly working, mental illness shouldn’t be on the rise as much as it is currently. It would be on the decline but that simply isn’t the case. All of this helps imply the fact that we need a new and better solution.

The new and better solution truly is LSD. LSD in the past has been used for many dangerous actions but now the people of the world have an opportunity to use it for the amazing ability it has to change mental illness. The Alcohol and drug foundation tells us that “In a study using LSD 80% of participants found their depression and anxiety to lessen significantly”. This shows that LSD could help with mental illness. If scientists were able to get 80% effectiveness on one of the first studies, think about how much it could be with years of research. LSD could possibly have a 95% or even higher effectiveness rate of causing people to become happy again. If studied more closely within the next few years. It truly could be the solution the people are looking for to solve mental illness.

While some believe LSD is too dangerous and our current medicine is efficient enough it simply isn’t the case. Mental illness is still on the rise and our current medicines aren’t slowing it down. Mental illness is a sickness and LSD is the solution. It has shown to be safe and truly do its job unlike our current medicines. While LSD could be dangerous if used wrongfully that wouldn’t be the case while using it to cure people’s mental illness state. LSD is the solution we’re looking for and it’d truly be a shame if we walked by it because we were too scared to take hold of the gift we have at our fingertips, LSD.

In conclusion with the information given it is easily seen that LSD could help change the mental illness world. With how the current medicines aren’t efficient enough and mental illness rapidly on the rise LSD is needed to solve these issues. LSD could truly change the world for the better. To where the imaginary world I wanted you to see at the beginning of this blog could become a reality. Where people truly are happier. If we use LSD for all of it’s good that world could truly come to life right in front of our very own eyes. We just have to reach out and grab hold of this drug and change the world to the reality we want it to be.

I really liked the direction with this blog. It was able to make a connection with LSD’s mind altering effects, and use those effects to alter mental illnesses. One of the problems you could explore if you’d like is the fact that, with the introduction of a new drug comes the problem of dependence on that drug. Will people get too addicted? Just some food for thought, but overall great post!

I liked yours a lot, good job! I liked how you acknowledged that mental health is currently being treated well, but that LSD could make it better. I think theres a question if LSD creates overall health issues? Like can people just become addicted and then they’re worse off? I think drug addiction causes worse side effects than depression. So I think it’s an interesting question if it causes health problems, or if it’s too addictive to use long term.

I hated it Bivins you smell. Also, I like the return to the idea of a “perfect” world to add validity to your claims. I am just wondering if LSD would have long term effect leading to reduced cognative or moter functions?
