The connection between mental health and physical health is a lot stronger than one would think. Some people may believe that they’re separate things that don’t affect each other whatsoever but they connect in every way possible. In some cases it may be that your mental health isn’t the best so your physical health may deplete. But in others it can be the opposite where you might be struggling with your physical health so it may start to affect your mental health.

Many people struggle with finding the balance between your physical and mental health and it’s not something that can change overnight. In the Premier Medical Group it says  “Most untreated mental health issues can develop into a big problem if you don’t care for them. This can then later affect the way you work or your relationships in your life.”

There are many things in your life that can worsen but a very important thing that we should care about from the beginning and attempt to manage from the beginning can help prevent it from worsening over time.

According to the Premier Medical Group most mental illnesses can lead to physical problems such as;

  • Job Stability –  Many people may start struggling with showing up on time and trying their hardest at work.
  • Sleep Problems – Mental health can also lead people to having sleeping problems like insomnia, nightmares, or poor sleep schedules
  • Life Span – Many people who struggle with severe mental health problems live 10 to 25 years less than those without these issues

Mental illnesses can manifest through symptoms such as chronic fatigue, headaches, digestive issues, and even a weakened immune system. Chronic illness depression has been linked to long-term illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. It can also cause minor issues such as headaches, fatigue, and digestion issues. In some cases mental illness can be a genetic disorder.

According to the Physical health and mental health | Mental Health Foundation “If you’re not in the best place mentally you can start to struggle with concentration and planning. You may not be able to focus as well or put your best effort in everything you do as you once did.” This doesn’t only apply to job stability but it can also have an impact on your schoolwork. Especially since mental health can affect anyone no matter their age, gender, background, or job.

As stated on  The Connection Between Mental and Physical Health some exercises that are recommended to improve mental health are;

  • Yoga-  This helps with relaxation and easing stress
  • Cycling- Helps keep the white matter in the brain healthy, allowing brain function to improve.
  • Running- It provides a calming effect that helps mood regulation
  • Boxing- This can help release a great amount of anger that may have been built up inside of you.
