When a person thinks of a serial killer, or any unstable person, they automatically just think ” they are crazy!” but never think about how their brain allows them to do the unthinkable. Why can their brain get pleasure off of killing someone? What provokes them? What is the cause of madness inside of a persons brain?
Sociopaths
Websters dictionary defines Sociopaths as, ” … Characterized by a social or antisocial behavior exhibiting anti social personality disorder. ”
Sociopaths are very stand off from other people, weather its not speaking even when spoken to, or becoming easily aggravated by just the sound of someone voice or a look. This allows them to have very erratic behavior, not knowing when their next violent or reckless act will be. Sociopaths stem from the environment they were raised around or what they tend to be around most often. It is a learned skill rather than a genetic. Unlike psychopaths, the ability to feel remorse can still show up in a Sociopaths life, due to it being an acquired/ forced upon trait.
Psychopaths
In our lives, many of us have probably heard someone being described as ” phyco,” but what does that truly mean?
Psychopaths ( unlike sociopaths) do not feel any remorse during the acts that they commit. According to phycology today, ” psychopaths are extremely manipulative and can easily gain peoples trust. ” Many would not even be able to tell someone battles with this curse in their life. While they are noy only able to be content they are also able to hold a job, and some even have families. These individuals plan out in depth crimes and acts against someone else. Unlike sociopaths many believe that this a genetic trait or a developmental issue in the womb. Many victims who have been effected by psychopaths were viewed not as if they were people but as objects that had not breath, value, or life in them. Just as objects that the psychopaths would get a dopamine high off of.
The similarities
Although both are stemmed from a different vine of the brain, psychopaths and sociopaths do have very similar traits, and is often time hard to differentiate. The most common shared trait is the lack of care for laws or morals. Neither believe that the law of the land have any control over them or their actions, seeing it more as a suggestion. Along with this, they have no disregard for others, lacking the need to feel like others matter. As previously stated, sociopaths can feel remorse, although the chances are slight. It is more common that they ( along with psychopaths) feel not remorse for their victims, and can often times feel as if what they did was the right thing.
