A Rough Start

Travis Scott began his music career in 2011 after dropping out of college his sophomore year. Traveling all throughout the United States, Scott was in and out of countless music studios trying to make a name for himself. Using allowance from his mother, who was clueless of his recent drop-out, to fund his sessions and traveling costs, he persisted through the struggles of trying to achieve in an already thriving rap industry. Finally, after two years of consistent effort, Travis Scott released his first album: Owl Pharaoh.

Battling Criticism

In 2013 with the release of Scott’s debut album, Owl Pharaoh, he finally caught a glimpse of the reality within the music industry. Carrying a unique tone in each of his songs he has produced, this project was no exception. Despite facing criticism in his pre-release years due to his up-beat, euphoric tone, Scott knew his album must portray his true self. Rap artists in the 2010s all carried a similar flow with similar topics. Yet, Travis Scott didn’t want to fall into the notion of everyone else of this time.

Instant Success

Despite creating its own path in an already established industry, Owl Pharaoh caught the attention of many. With his distinct sound, beat, and storyline behind each story, fans from all around the world adopted this variability with open arms. They loved the new, refreshing album that involved aspects that were rather unknown to the industry. From voice pitches that sound almost robotic, to a variety of beats never thought to be introduced on a rap album, Scott portrayed it all within this project. Containing features from well-known artists, Travis was able to hit the ground running while using this new love and support to fuel his career.

Only the Beginning

In 2013, Scott’s Owl Pharaoh was even nominated for best mixtape at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Some critics stated he was still trying to find his house, but due to his urge to engage in new things this would be no problem in finding his wave. To show such dedication through constant failure while staying true to his goals, Scott’s debut success was nothing but deserved. This album acted as a grand building block for his later success in the music industry and his expansion out of it. Travis Scott is a perfect example of how truly successful any individual can be if you just stay true to your aspirations, despite the criticism from those that might not even know you.
