Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live somewhere that is spacious, with nature’s beautiful landscapes covering every inch with trees, rivers, and animals? Or how about living in an area packed with roads, billboards, and pigeons seeking drops of crumbs all across the sidewalks? Both living spaces have their ups and downs, their goods and bads, as well as their yays and nays, but actually spending some time seeing what they bring to the table makes it feel like two completely different worlds. Although both cities & countrysides exist to meet the needs of their residents, cities rely on crowded buildings & structures to encourage social interaction, whereas the countryside uses open landscapes to promote peace and independence, showing how these environments shape residents’ lifestyles.
When taking a look at both a city and the countryside, one clear difference between them is their environment. For cities, they are filled with roads full of traffic for nearly the entire day, unlimited stores along with restaurants to choose from, and buildings mainly used as apartment complexes and to hold secretive yet important business meetings. As a result, almost no space there can offer even a tiny bit of peace due to the sound of people chattering, the number of cars honking for no reason, and the arguing of alley cats over a place to sleep.
However, when learning about the countryside, the environment offers a ton of open space, often filled with only empty fields, acres full of trees, and farms filled with different kinds of animals often used for food production. Instead of seeing lanes filled with an endless number of noisy cars, the countryside contains small roads made of broken stone, with only a small number of cars passing by daily. Because of this, the countryside can offer hours full of silence for those who want to have a calm day without too many distractions.
Another difference between these two areas can be seen through their ways of daily transportation accessibility. In cities, people who live there can easily gain access to various forms of transport, as buses, trains, and sidewalks are always available to those who need to get from one place to another. If people choose not to take these forms of transportation, then they can choose to drive their own automobile and even listen to their own tunes as they‘re out on their errand.
On the other hand, when needing to go from place to place in an open rural area, like the countryside, the different forms of transportation offered in cities are scarce in the countryside. Because of this, it makes getting to work, school, stores, and other places highly difficult, as residents/visitors would need to have an automobile of their own or a trusted person to take them to different places, especially if these different establishments are incredibly far from each other.
Yet another difference when taking a look at the lifestyles of these two different places can be seen in the number of activities available for those who want to participate. For example, cities usually have a wide range of entertainment centers such as movie theaters, shopping centers, restaurants, concerts, sporting events, and multiple hang-out spots for people who want to make memories with their loved ones. When taking a closer look at these activities, they can all include multiple guests who were looking to do the same exact thing during their day, making these areas semi-crowded with others who looked forward to going shopping or watching the latest movie that came out in theaters.
Meanwhile, the countryside can offer activities that are mainly outdoors, immersed in nature. Activities like fishing, hiking, riding bikes, or just spending time basking in the fresh air while looking at the sunset offer a place to freely move and enjoy these activities either alone or with friends and family members. So, even though the city and the countryside offer different forms of entertainment, both areas allow those who are just visiting or who are lifelong residents opportunities to have even a little bit of fun.
Even though cities and the countryside can seem very different when going through two different perspectives, they can have very few similarities. Both these spaces of living contain schools for education, homes for those who want to live and be a part of what’s around them, and people who are unique in their own personalities and interests. So it does not matter where anyone chooses to live in a city or in the countryside because they can build and live their own lives, meet new people and even be friends with most of them, and build new awesome memories in their community.
In the end, the city and the countryside are best for those who are able and willing to adjust to their different environments based on what they believe is a better living environment for them. Inside the city, ambition, new experiences, and simplicity are encouraged and life-changing, while the countryside can influence relaxation, reflection, and appreciation for what is around them. However, they can also have some similarities mainly because they are both areas in which people can have the ability to work, live, and have fun, learn new things that they’ve never thought of before, and create new memories that they could cherish forever.
