When you think about a restaurant you may think about what kind of food that they sell or what specials they may have that day but nobody thinks to look in. What I mean by this is there are, obviously, people behind the preparation of the food and the transportation of it from kitchen to your table, which is very similar to the preparation of your drink. Both spaces have similar elements but the dichotomy between the two is drastic. The designs and aesthetics of a room or space can definitely cause this drastic difference that makes us act and feel differently.
Kitchens, for example, are sterile, hot, and have a lot going on at once. The overwhelming feeling of having to much to do while also sweating makes a very hectic and uneasy feeling brew. The sterile feeling may have your mind blank and devoid of joy. The kitchen is also packed with appliances, fridges that make the spaces feel crowded creating a small sense of panic if there is already to much happening. The kitchen crews attitude and mood most definitely play into how the environment feels. If they are bringing in some personal baggage they are definitely going to make it everyone else’s problem. No shade, but when they do that it can alter the outcome of everyone’s shift. The way the kitchen already looks and feels can also amplify those bad feelings.

The bar and seating area on the other hand has an entirely different vibe. Elements of the space would be mood lighting, what I imagine to be soft or even fun music, and comfortable conversation. This creates a family environment and makes everything feel open and fun. You would want to be in there to experience the conversation and the easy feeling that they all have with one another. The interior design can also affect the bar and seating, much like the kitchen. If the walls are a softer more balanced color and if there are windows in the environment feels more peaceful.

In conclusion, The way an environment looks definitely has an affect on the way that you feel when you are inside it. If the environment is hot and cramped you are likely to feel overwhelmed and if the environment is open and conversational then you are probably going to feel more comfortable. So next time you think that the food is taking to long or the servers seem overwhelmed, just remember what is going on back in the kitchen.
