We live in a world where we are constantly attempting to make our lives easier. Indefinitely, technology is providing advancements in everything to help conserve time. Indeed it does, however what if we took the opportunity to actually experience the time. We rely on cars for travel, phones for communication, ai for knowledge, and tv for entertainment. What does that leave us with? A sight from the future reveals a population full of these emotionless half human half robot creatures being composed by our screens. We need to start controlling our technology before they control us.

We rush all day just to end up spending free time on our phones. We are not producing anything without some sort of technology input and as much as everyone, I included, want to argue our obsession, it’s undeniable. Being able to observe anywhere and actually wonder what the world has come to, is truly frightening. I had the opportunity to dedicate a trip to specifically observing a public space and I couldn’t help but notice beneath the surface of our ordinary places, technology is controlling all of it. The way we get there, how we interact, and the overall experience. A global phenomenon that’s strange, but accurate is that we don’t decide our form of transportation, as we instinctively don’t think about walking anywhere. We designed our own environments to, as Solnit stresses, “make real travel less necessary.”(Solnit 2). She significantly addresses this in her piece of “Wanderlust”, as she juxtaposes an enjoyable walk she attended. I choose specifically to expand on this because I recently discovered we are almost forced into driving ourselves places because there is no secure and enjoyable site we can walk on. We are the reason behind this. We purposefully design places carefree and sluggish.

Technology is concealing us away from the beauty of the world we live in by imprisoning us inside all day. We are reluctant from doing the things that take longer but that also restrains us from embracing the experiences of the world. Technology is a brainwashing mechanism that will turn us paralyzed in this world. We are always going somewhere but we never let ourselves be where we are. We need to do something and do it now. We need to refuse these artificial contraptions and regulate ourselves to really live the life we get one chance at.

What’s the first thing people think when you mention the future? Perhaps they say flying cars or time travel. Just based on their answer, it is evident enough to argue that technology will take over our future. The more and more technology assists in our lives, the less and less we live our own lives. Soon enough, spot the difference game will come to life, only we are part of the game.

As we consume the life we should live, we should not accept our day in the life as a to-do list. Don’t let your life become a chore through the excuses you present. If you want to become your technology, keep up the good work!
